Sit in on a day in the salon, watch the dogs and the groomers in action & have a little ‘hands on’ experience. This day may help you decide if this is the career for you.
1 Week Taster
A week in the salon gives you more time to experience the day to day running of the
salon and a chance to work with the dogs a little more. You should definitely know
by the end of this week if you want to take your training further.
30 Working Day Basic
This is the Beginner’s Course, an introduction to the grooming business. An
overview of grooming equipment, tools and supplies; their use, care and maintenance.
Health & safety for animals and humans in the grooming salon. Breed recognition.
Basic canine behaviour. An introduction to grooming and styling techniques to
include: brushing, de-matting, de-shedding, care of the ears, care of
the nails, care of the anal glands, bathing, drying, clipping, scissoring, blending &
handstripping. Training will be based on City and Guilds grooming guidelines.
This course will provide the trainee with a strong foundation in basic grooming skills
and participants will receive a certificate upon completion. Price of this course includes a
starter pack consisting of The Grooming Manual for Dogs & Cats, tool bag, grooming
jacket, scissors, thinners, nail clippers, slicker brush, comb, matt splitter, clipper freeze spray, ear wash, ear powder and trimmex. First year’s membership to the Irish Professional Dog Groomer’s Association is included in the course fee.
